While most fencing is usually installed into the ground, situations exist when a retaining wall or any existing wall needs a fence installed on top of it. There are several methods to accomplish this and they can be different depending on the type of fence you are using.

Wrought Iron Fence
There are two different ways to install a wrought iron fence on top of a wall.

1. Core Drill: Once again, this is the recommended and most secure method. Use the core drill to bore out a hole at least a little larger than the diameter of the post. The depth of the hole should be at least 4″. Quick drying grout (not standard concrete) should be used when installing posts on top of a wall.

2. Post with Welded Plate attached: This type of post can be purchased from Fence-Depot along with your fence. This method is less labor intensive but not as sturdy. Set the post on a level surface and bolt down with concrete/masonry anchors. Then attach fence sections.
